The Prepress Technician is responsible for creating and developing production ready files based on customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities and material constraints for the purpose of making proofs.  Ensuring customer satisfaction and providing excellent service will be a primary function in this position.


  1. Evaluates and edits files or create artwork files to meet customer expectations, press specifications and production requirements.
  2. Collects, reads and understands provided information from customers, sales and others ensuring completeness, accuracy and consistency.
  3. Recognizes and fixes the common problems with files provided by outside sources for print jobs. Knows where to find assistance to solve les common problems (vendors, press crews, etc.)
  4. Able to correct and manipulate digital images including photo stitching, color correcting and digital effects.
  5. Utilizes content management tools for retrieving and referencing images and files.
  6. Finalizes pre-flight of customer provided artwork working within the capabilities of GNC equipment and processes. Recommends alternative processes where appropriate.
  7. Submits proofs for customer approval.
  8. Maintains accuracy for material color profiles and color management.
  9. Understands and performs rasterization of files for digital output.
  10. Performs manual file trapping in Adobe Illustrator CC.
  11. Works with design to determine printability and manufacturability.
  12. Provide properly assembled final art to the digital press crew, to vendors for print jobs and to outside vendors for litho, screen and digital printing.
  13. Prepares files for digital, online and analog proofing and printing devices.
  14. Follows standard operating procedures and practices to insure consistent and uniform quality of files.
  15. Maintains electronic files and archives of all computer created graphics.
  16. Regular and reliable attendance.


Individual must possess: Two or four year degree in graphic arts or graphic communication and one to two years’ experience in the field, OR five plus years’ experience in the field.

Must demonstrate high degree of skill in computer graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat and others.

Must show problem identification and creative and innovative problem solving skills; ability to multi-task, juggle priorities and be detail oriented; legible handwriting to record information and fill out forms; ability to perform mathematical calculations involving adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, decimals and percentages; ability to perform algebraic and geometric calculations; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks; ability to solve problems and make adjustments regarding materials and process; capable of dealing with deadline pressures; integrity regarding confidential and proprietary information.
