Great Northern Corporation Wins Five Gold “Design of the Times” Awards
Appleton, Wis. Nov. 21, 2008—Great Northern Corporation’s Consumer Packaging &
Display took home five gold awards from the 2008 Design of the Times Awards in Las Vegas on Nov. 13.
The contest, sponsored by Shopper Marketing, was held during the In-Store Marketing Expo.
Entries were judged on creativity in design and engineering, innovative use of materials, compatibility of the display with its retail channel, brand enhancement capabilities, and realization of sales and marketing objectives.
GNC's gold award winners this year include...

American Girl Permanent Book Display:
was designed specifically for Barnes & Noble to increase product awareness and encourage impulse sales. The four-sided, freestanding display features adjustable shelves allowing retailers to increase the number of titles showcased in one location. Molded clear shelving enables easy viewing of the product while a Lazy Susan platform increases the shoppability of the tower.

Walgreens Holiday Signage Program: incorporates both counter signage and ceiling danglers to merchandise products in the fragrance area during the holiday season. Maximum print quality was achieved through offset printing of the components. Counter signage, created using 0.30" chipboard, requires minimal space volume. Units are designed to fit onto the top gondola shelves inside of the fragrance area to provide maximum height for visibility. Ceiling danglers are large, impactful and lightweight (6 pounds). All major components are constructed of temporary and recyclable materials.

Guardian Carousel Countertop Display : used to promote automatic standby generators at home centers and hardware stores, features an interactive 3-D carousel to capture consumer attention at service counters or check-out lanes. The three-sided design allows the consumer to read about automatic power protection and walk away with a brochure on product models. The turntable causes the consumer to spend additional time with the display.

Guardian Tower Display: garners attention at a height of 95 inches and has a billboard-effect in conveying the value of an automatic standby power source during outages. This piece is a powerful component in the overall merchandising program for the product.
It is easy to assemble and easy to reposition with its lightweight construction (12 pounds) and minimal footprint (16 inches by
27 inches).

Mario Kart Standee:
is a motorized display that showcases the Wii Wheel as the accessory to play the newly launched Mario Kart Wii game. Designed to gain incremental exposure in Canadian channels outside the typical entertainment arena, this large display stands
60 inches tall by 14 inches deep by 30 inches wide. Three-sided hutch is removable, allowing product to be securely stored and/or the standee portion of the display to be used without the hutch.
