Appleton, Wis. Oct. 20, 2008—Great Northern Corporation’s Consumer Packaging & Display
will be showcasing its recent creative displays at the 2008 In-Store Marketing Expo,
Nov. 12-14, 2008, in Las Vegas.
Great Northern will exhibit its award-winning point-of-sale display capabilities in Booth #901 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The expo begins this year on Wednesday, Nov. 12, with educational symposiums. The Exhibit Hall is open on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 13 and 14. Click here for registration information.
This year,
Great Northern has entered 10 of its recent displays in the 2008
Design of the Times contest, which is sponsored by
Shopper Marketing. Entries are judged on creativity in design and engineering, innovative use of materials, compatibility of the display with its retail channel, brand enhancement capabilities, and realization of sales and marketing objectives. Winners will be announced at a reception on Thursday evening.
Great Northern’s contest entries this year include:

SC Johnson Glade Kroger Holiday Pre-built Floor Display: Mobile pallet system arrives preassembled and loaded. Retailer can move the 400-plus-pound pallet into position via pallet jack on the floor and have it ready to display in less than one minute. Shoppable from four sides, the unit’s mobility allows maximum flexibility in location. The display nests and is banded to a slave pallet utilizing a patent-pending system. Ease of shopping, consolidation of product into one location, display mobility and display execution have made this one of SCJ’s most successful display launches.

Walgreen’s Holiday Signage Program: Counter signage was offset printed on 0.30" chipboard for maximum print quality and minimal space volume. Units are designed to fit onto the top gondola shelves inside of the fragrance area, necessitating a small footprint with maximum height for visibility. Ceiling dangler is large, impactful and lightweight (6 pounds). All major components are constructed of temporary and recyclable materials.

Sam’s Club Wireless Island Display: A first of its kind for Sam’s Club, display is actually two pallets that ship together and are placed side-by-side at retail. Large three-sided island promotes the wireless concept with three compatible products: Lexmark printers, Linksys routers and Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. Display ships fully pre-packed, one pallet on top of the other banded as a unit.

Guardian Tower Display: Easily assembled mobile upright acts as billboard of information on the value of having an automatic standby power source during outages. Lightweight construction (12 pounds) and minimal footprint (16 inches by 27 inches) allow for easy repositioning. Height of 95 inches and bright colors effectively capture consumer attention by towering above retail racks.

Office Max Environmental Half-Pallet Display: Promotes Lexmark’s environmental message and environmentally friendly new printer that prints on two sides, reducing paper consumption. Display message also highlights the printer’s Energy Star rating and high-capacity cartridges. Additional incentive messaging announces that Lexmark will plant a tree for every printer sold.

American Girl Permanent Book Display: The goal was to create one-stop shopping within the retail channel (Barnes & Noble) to enhance impulse sales and increase product awareness. Four-sided configuration with adjustable shelves was designed to increase the number of titles that the retailer could showcase in one location. Molded clear shelving enables easy viewing of the product while a Lazy Susan platform increases the shoppability of the tower.

Guardian Carousel Countertop Display: Part of a new merchandising program to promote automatic standby generators, the interactive 3-D carousel display is designed to maximize consumer visibility at service counters or check-out lanes. The three-sided design allows the consumer to read about automatic power protection and walk away with a brochure on product models. The turntable causes the consumer to spend additional time with the display.

Circuit City Back to School Half Pallet: Created to have a presence in 600 Circuit City stores in time for back to school shopping, the two-sided half pallet is designed to show how to become wireless with routers and printers. Two consumer product goods companies are included on the display – Linksys wireless routers and Lexmark printers and ink. The display is shoppable from two sides with the other sides used for marketing messages to the consumer.

SC Johnson OFF! PowerPad® Lantern and Refill Pad Display: Corrugated display with mounted litho graphics features a simulated “lit” product. Unit was designed to fit on the 36” wide endcaps of Target stores. Battery pack that powers the flickering LED inside the lantern is easily accessible through a side panel that is attached with Velcro®. Tray was designed with no front lip to maximize product exposure and ease shopper access. Product in these display units is outselling the same shelved product in other stores by four to one.

Mario Kart Standee:
This large display – 60 inches tall by 14 inches deep by 30 inches wide – with added motor was designed to develop incremental exposure in Canadian channels outside the typical entertainment arena. Standee showcases the Wii Wheel as the accessory that allows anyone in the family to play the newly launched Mario Kart Wii game. Three-sided hutch is removable, allowing product to be securely stored and/or the standee portion of the display to be used without the hutch.
