| Solutions That Shield
Fulfilling its commitment to product development in response to growing customer needs, Laminations recently introduced three new innovations to the VBoard® line: HydroShield™, PetroShield™ and ScuffShield™.
These products were developed in response to customers who were increasingly looking for ways to protect their shipments from elements that can cause damage during transport, including water, oil and grease, and abrasion.
Laminations packaging engineers analyzed multiple application scenarios in careful detail to develop the most functional, cost-effective solutions to meet these needs. “We examined all aspects of our customers' situations to truly tailor a product to fit their needs,” said Keri Otremba, New Product Engineer for Laminations. “We sought to find the best approach for our customers to keep their costs low, while giving them a better functioning packaging solution.”
At the same time, because of Laminations' commitment to recycling, the team sought solutions that could be manufactured with minimal environmental impact. “We seek to use recycled materials in production and to create products that are recyclable,” continued Otremba. “The coatings we are using for these new products are repulpable — they can be recycled along with all other paper materials.”
The result was three unique products, each designed for a specific application.
HydroShield features a water-resistant coating that helps maintain its protective integrity in wet or humid environments. Moisture beads and rolls off before it can be absorbed. This feature makes HydroShield especially effective for edge protection and pallet stabilization in shipping and storing produce and other food perishables.
PetroShield features a special coating on its inside layer that keeps oil and grease in their place. Instead of rubbing off or penetrating the VBoard®, lubricants stay on the product. This unique feature makes PetroShield the best edge protection choice when shipping or storing metal machinery parts.
ScuffShield takes the protective strength of VBoard and adds an abrasion-resistant coating on the interior leg that protects delicate finishes from scuffing, abrasion and nicks. ScuffShield is perfect for shipping and handling furniture and appliances with stained, painted or enameled finishes.
All of these barrier solutions can be applied to other Laminations product offerings. For example, PetroShield in the FlexBoard® format is ideal for protecting steel rolls. In addition, HydroShield, PetroShield and ScuffShield are all available in multiple calipers and leg lengths and can be custom produced for a specific application.
