The Great Northern Cares team was at it again, joining the MyTeam Triumph (Wisconsin region) in a recent 5K event. The mission of MyTeam Triumph is to enrich the wellbeing of individuals with diverse abilities and foster lifelong relationships through community athletics. The organization operates over 75 events each year in eight regions of Wisconsin, bringing together 600 Captains (athletes with diverse abilities), 1500 Angels (able bodied athletes) and 270 Volunteers. So far this year, they have already offered more than 28,000 total opportunities (26,000 training , 2400 racing) over 40+ events in Wisconsin.

Lending a Helping Hand to Equine Programs for Children with Special Needs
The Fox Cities Give Back Bus took the Appleton Great Northern Cares team to Beaming Inc., a nonprofit equine-assisted therapeutic riding facility that helps individuals with special needs. The 16-member volunteer team cleaned tack, helmets, the garage, horse stall poles, pulled weeds, and even assisted with office work. Before leaving, the team participated in an awareness experience, allowing them to understand how an autistic child feels, every day.
Great Northern Partners with Paper Discovery Center to Create an “Outside the Box” Experience
When people think about boxes, they think of the items inside the box. This year, Great Northern partnered with Paper Discovery Center to create the program, “Cardboard – Outside the Box,” as a way to inspire creativity in a child’s mind. With the cardboard donations from Great Northern, children were able to explore, create, and invent with this interactive program. Watch the video here:
Great Northern Serves more than Food to Families During Difficult Times
The Great Northern Cares Chicago team served up more than just meals at the downtown Chicago Ronald McDonald House. The 13 volunteers cooked five dishes and listened to the moving stories of the house Guests during Sunday brunch.

Great Northern Laminations’ Aaron Sass, Director of New Business Development, has been working with Appleton East High School students in the Career Launch Studio. The program helps students who wouldn’t otherwise know how to move from graduation into a career and prepares, equips, and launches them into success.

Great Northern Employees Pull 200,000 lb. Plane for Local Veterans
On a recent Saturday, 20 Appleton area Great Northern employees took part in the Pulling for Honor event held at the Appleton International Airport. The mission of the Pulling for Honor 2019 event was to fully fund one Honor Flight, enabling 100 veterans to experience an unforgettable trip to Washington D.C. Great Northern employees came ready to help fulfill this mission!
Great Northern Promotes Jeff Michels to President of Packaging and Instore
Great Northern is pleased to announce that Jeff Michels was recently promoted to President of the Packaging and Instore Groups. Michels moves into this newly created role after 14 years as the Packaging Business Unit Manager and a total of 21 years with Great Northern. He will have direct responsibility for Great Northern facilities in Racine, Wis.; Minneapolis, Minn.; and Chippewa Falls, Wis., in addition to his current leadership of the Appleton, Wis. plant.
