Every year, Great Northern Cares team members come together to make a tangible impact on our community through the Feed the Body, Feed the Soul event in partnership with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. This 12-hour volunteer event brings together over 1,000 dedicated individuals to package 200,000 pounds of rice for local food pantries.
The event originated in 2017 Great Northern has been a supporter of the event since the beginning, donating the boxes to package the rice.
Thanks to generous sponsors, including Great Northern, the event provides all the necessary materials, allowing volunteers to focus on the task at hand: packaging rice. With music pumping and a sense of camaraderie filling the air, teams work tirelessly to bag, weigh, label, and box the rice, filling pallets with life-changing provisions.
For Amanda Parafiniuk, Shipping Planner at Great Northern in Appleton, this event has become an annual tradition for her and her family. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for team building, community, and family engagement,” she shares. “I love working alongside colleagues from all levels of the company, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know that our efforts are directly helping those in need.”
As the event draws to a close, the organizers announce the total weight of rice packaged. The staggering number serves as a powerful reminder of the collective impact we can achieve when we come together for a common cause.
